Aida32 is a great free tool for checking all your hardware components in detail. It will tell you measures of your motherboard in inches...and the name of any single chip in the comp. You have to download it, it is 4Mb file.

I used it on public computers where you don't have acces to all Widows features. It tells you how much free disk space you have, how much free RAM and such. It reveals the producer of let's say sound card, so you can find right driver without opening a PC box...
